cannot fly it one foot off the ground in my garage as the software disables all flight since i live near an airport. I am returning it. This should be told in the product description so people are aware. don’t buy dji if you live near and airport. we wanted to take pictures and video inside our warehouse and cannot fly the thing even one foot. buy another brand that doesn’t automatically disable flight due to where you live.

This is an excellent starter drone for someone who is very interested in getting into hard core drone photography or videography. It’s a bit on the expensive side for just goofing off with, but is well priced for a decent starter drone. This drone will allow you to learn to pilot a drone, and how to use the camera, and will teach you the basics of flying.
The unit is also pretty durable, as mine crashed from about 30’ after a tree jumped out in front of me. I broke one blade which was a cheap and easy fix and was back In the air in about 10 minutes.

Was looking for an inexpensive drone (around $100) & a friend said it wouldn’t have GPS snd I’d be unhappy with it. He recommended the DJI Mavic Mini and I’m glad he did. Was packaged in a box like new. Everything was pristine upon inspection. Instructions etc in the box are sorta lacking. Searched YouTube for how to vids snd that helped to explain the controller, settings in the app etc. so far it’s been a blast to fly and at less than 250 grams it doesn’t have to be registered!

I purchased this reconditioned item thinking it would be good enough for what I needed it for….Unfortunately during the first flight, shortly after takeoff (255’ away and 45’ up)the picture on my phone went black and the drone stopped responding to controls. I believe being the drone lost communication with the remote, the drone started a return to home and ended up hitting a tree. Sent it back and they charged me a 50% restocking fee. Would steer clear of this seller.

I don’t have time this morning to really get into it. The instructions in the rebuilt kit I received were of no help whatsoever. Sort of like IKEA drawings.
Having said that, get over it. You know how to figure things out and after a while I got it up and running. I don’t know how to do all the dipsy doodle stuff that it can do but I’ll figure it out. I am a big boy and having something as complex as this to work on is refreshing. I’m sure there are so many features I can access when I have the time, like that will happen, but I can use it to examine service connections to the house from the entrance cable for my electrical customers. That’s what I told my wife it was for. I do have an 8 year old grandson-and I might add an 18 month old granddaughter, so I’ll get plenty of use from it.

DJI make great drones. Really easy to fly. The refurbished drone on the other hand didn’t fly right, the signal was choppy so I sent it back and purchased the new one instead. I wouldn’t suggest getting a refubished one.

Malwarebytes warned that the DJI Fly app contained “malicious links”. Not potentially malicious, just malicious. It’s also a little suspicious that you have to install directly from the DJI site instead of Google Play Store. The apps on Google Play Store are screened for security issues prior to being posted. Am I a little paranoid? No, I am very paranoid dealing with any software from the PRC. It’s disappointing to return it, but I depend on that phone and can’t let it get hacked. Too much to lose for the sake of a new toy. Especially not after a bad experience and being warned. I returned the drone for a full refund. Gotta love Amazon for that.

The controls and physical side of this unit are fantastic. It’s easy to fly, flies well even in less than ideal weather and has incredibly precise maneuvering. It is even resilient handling some light collision (tree leaves) with ease. The controller works well with my Galaxy s10e and you can quickly learn how to navigate most areas.
The major shortcomings of the unit are battery life and poorly designed/optimized software. The battery is a technological limitation which there isn’t much the designers could probably have done anything about but sadly they could have put more time and effort into software development. Simply, a safe 5 minute flight time (giving yourself enough time to get home) with video is just too short for me especially when struggling with software issues (calibration, gps loss, video corruption).
Unfortunately the software is the big limitation here. Immediately out of the box there were problems. The unit has to constantly (every time you start it up) be recalibrated resulting in less battery/flight time. It’s constantly losing GPS signal. The video files are very easily corrupted and several of mine have become lost due to system glitches. If you look up “Mavic Mini Corrupt Video” you will see this problem is very prevalent.
This combined with the very short battery time makes this unit completely impractical for anything beyond amusement purposes. At nearly $400 this is simply unacceptable. Of course you can buy more batteries but you still have to replace them every time you take the unit up and it doesn’t solve the software issues. I’m planning on returning mine.
