GoPro Cameras
GoPro was founded by Nick Woodman in 2002. Mr. Goodman started the company following a 2002 surf trip to Australia in which he was hoping to capture quality action photos of his surfing, but could not. At the time amateur photographers could not get close enough, or obtain quality video equipment at reasonable prices.
That built his desire for an easy to use camera system that could allow amatuers to capture professional angles. It also inspired the ‘GoPro’ name.
Woodman raised funds by selling bead and shell belts out of his VW van, and over $230,000 in investments from his parents.
In 2004, the company sold its first camera system, which used 35 mm film. Digital still and video camera were later introduced. Around 2014 a fixed-lens HD video camera with a wide 170-degree angle became available. Two or more GoPro cameras can actually be paired to create 3D video.
